A Ranking of Women's Universities
This is a ranking of universities for women. It includes those higher education institutions that are reported as exclusively or primarily for female students and are included in the Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) published in January 2025 or any other global university ranking.
Institutions are listed in order of their position in Webometrics, which combines measures of research output with web activity. It is not a ranking of the best universities for women and does not say anything directly about the student experience at these universities, third mission activities, or quality of teaching.
We found that only two women’s universities not included in Webometrics were included in any other major ranking.
There are a number of girls’ or women’s colleges in India, and perhaps a few in other countries, that that are ranked by Webometrics. We have assumed that their exclusion is due to their not granting degrees, affiliation to universities, or lack of independent web activity. But please notify us if there are any errors.
Most women’s universities are in Asia, with the largest numbers located in India, Japan, and South Korea. However, American universities tend to cluster near the top, with American institutions taking six out of the top ten places.
In addition to world and country rank in Webometrics, we have also included ranks in the most edition of the world rankings published by Scimago, CWUR, THE, and QS. It is noticeable that Ewha Women’s does very well in these rankings.
